Confidence on Employment Prospect Poll

The DAB conducted a poll on the public’s level of Confidence on employment prospect by telephone mid last year. The poll revealed that 1) the respondents were satisfied with the current salary and benefits, but were not confident about future prospects; 2) the mid- to long-term unemployed became more confident in job finding despite their unemployment period was extended; 3) More than 85% of the respondents who were retired or housewives had no plans to return to the workforce within one year; 4) More than half of the respondents agreed to shorten the Working Family Allowance application period; 5) The respondents tended to support relaxing the academic requirements for the Employees Retraining Board courses.


Recommendations:

1. Enhance the "Working Family Allowance Scheme"

2. Relax the academic requirements for Employees Retraining Board courses

3. Set up a talent shortage list and give allowances

4. Enhance training courses

5. Enhance the support of the Labor Department’s employment platform

6. Improve public childcare services to attract women to work full-time
